Periprosthetic supracondylar femur fracture treated with spanning external fixation.

Periprosthetic supracondylar fractures of the femur after total knee arthroplasty represent a devastating complication for the patient and a technical challenge for the surgeon. Treatment is often complicated by advanced patient age, retained cement, and accompanying osteoporosis. We present the case of a 54-year-old woman with a comminuted fracture of the distal femur just above a total knee p...

Assessment of Various Fixation Options for the Treatment of Femur Fracture: a Comparative Study

Background: Incidence of intertrochanteric fractures has been found to be significantly increasing in today’s modern human populations. Generally, intramedullary fixation and extramedullary fixation are the 2 primary options for treatment of such fractures. The dynamic hip screw (DHS), commonly used in extramedullary fixation, has become a standard implant in treatment of these fractures. Proxi...

Outcomes Of Distal Femur Fracture Treated With Dynamic Condylar Screw.

BACKROUND Implants for open reduction and internal fixation of distal femoral fracture includes angle blade plate, rush nails, enders nail and interlocking nails. But all these devices are technically demanding and less effective in providing inter-fragmentary compression in osteoporotic bones. These problems can be solved with dynamic condylar screw (DCS).The objective of the study was to dete...
